Overview Of Project/Role

BE THE POWER BEHIND THE TUBE

London Underground has the largest private electrical distribution network in the country which requires multi-disciplined technical staff to maintain the infrastructure. We are looking for someone with experience in the field of power station maintenance to join our team as a Shift Fitter.

Shift Fitter's are responsible for carrying out daily operational and maintenance duties in a safe and efficient manner to ensure the availability of Greenwich Generating Station, which consists of seven Open Cycle Gas Turbines (OCGT) with a combined output of 103MW.

The Station provides London Underground's Central Emergency Power Supply (CEPS) as part of the Safety Certificate and Safety Authorisation for operating the railway.

In addition, generation is provided commercially under contract with national grid to reduce London Underground's overall demand at times of stress on the grid, through Operating Reserve and Capacity Market contracts.

The Greenwich Shift Fitter is accountable for supporting the Greenwich Shift Engineer through the delivery of routine maintenance activities and the safe operation of the Generating Stations. The Greenwich Shift Fitter reports into both the Greenwich Shift Engineer and the Greenwich Day Manager.

The role requires the manning of the station on a 24/7, 365 day basis as part of a team consisting of 5 Greenwich Shift Engineers and 5 Greenwich Shift Fitters, working a 5 cycle shift pattern based on 12 hour shifts days/nights. There is also a Relief Shift Position to provide cover of the other 5 Greenwich Shift Fitters for annual leave, training or sickness cover.

This is a Safety Critical Role so you will be required to pass a medical.

Key Accountabilities

  • Knowledge, understanding and compliance with London Underground and site-specific Health Safety Environmental and Quality policies and procedures. Conduct Health and Safety audits/inspections
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Generation Station Assets
  • Working to a safe system of work including carrying out safe isolations of the generation assets and the acceptance of High Voltage and Mechanical and Electrical (Non-HV) permit to work/safety documentation
  • Maintenance of the assets both planned and reactive to ensure continued availability. Including fault diagnostics and rectification across all three disciplines (electrical, Control and Instrumentation and mechanical). Induction and supervision of external contract staff

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
