About the Role
S-Curve Economics CIC, a non-profit think tank dedicated to advancing understanding of the economics of the low carbon transition, is seeking a Power Sector Research Associate. We are recruiting for an additional member of our Power Sector Transition team to help shape the future of clean, reliable, and affordable electricity systems.
We are seeking a Research Associate to contribute to innovative research and policy engagement on power market reform, with a particular focus on energy storage and the transition to low-carbon power systems. The role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile international projects – including the UK-China Power Market Reform Advisory Group (PMRAG) – and to collaborate with governments, research organisations, and industry experts globally, with a strong geographic focus on the UK and China. In this role, you will undertake rigorous research and analysis, contribute to high-impact reports and policy briefings, support project delivery and international partner engagement, and play an active role in expanding S-Curve Economics’ portfolio of power sector transition work.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
