About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Power System Network Model Engineer to support electricity transmission network modelling within an Energy Management System (EMS) environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and validating detailed network models representing the electrical transmission system. This includes modelling substations, busbars, circuit breakers, transformers, transmission lines, generators, and the connectivity relationships between these assets.
You will work closely with transmission operators, electricity utilities, and/or grid control centre teams to ensure network models accurately represent the physical power system and support real-time monitoring and operational analysis.
Experience with GE PowerOn, GE XA/21, or a comparable transmission EMS platform is highly desirable.
Working Arrangement & Clearance
- SC Cleared: Hybrid working, approximately 2–3 days onsite per week in Wokingham.
- SC Eligible: 5 days onsite per week in Wokingham while clearance is being obtained.
Candidates must be UK-based and remain UK-based for the duration of the assignment.
Candidates must either hold UK SC clearance or be eligible to undergo SC clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, configure, maintain, and validate electricity transmission network models within an EMS environment.
- Model and maintain electrical assets including:
- Substations
- Busbars
- Circuit breakers
- Transformers
- Transmission lines
- Generators
- Define and maintain accurate network topology and connectivity between electrical assets.
- Ensure the network model accurately reflects the physical transmission network.
- Map SCADA telemetry and live monitoring data to the corresponding network equipment and model elements.
- Support network model validation, testing, and quality assurance.
- Apply knowledge of state estimation, power flow, and contingency analysis to support EMS functionality.
- Investigate and resolve network modelling and connectivity issues.
- Work with control centre, engineering, operational, and technical stakeholders to understand modelling requirements.
- Support network model migration, commissioning, and system upgrades where required.
- Contribute to continuous improvements in network modelling processes and EMS capabilities.
- Ensure models and associated documentation are accurate, consistent, and fit for operational use.

Essential Skills & Experience
The successful candidate must have:
- Proven experience in electricity transmission network modelling within an Energy Management System (EMS).
- Strong understanding of electrical transmission network topology and connectivity.
- Hands-on experience modelling:
- Substations
- Busbars
- Circuit breakers
- Transformers
- Transmission lines
- Generators
- Experience mapping SCADA telemetry / real-time monitoring data to network equipment.
- Experience with GE PowerOn, GE XA/21, or a comparable transmission EMS platform.
- Strong understanding of:
- State estimation
- Power flow
- Contingency analysis
- Experience working within one or more of the following environments:
- Electricity transmission operators
- Electricity utilities
- National/regional grid organisations
- Grid control centres
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work effectively with engineering, operations, and technical teams.

Desirable Skills
Experience with the following would be advantageous:
- CIM standards, particularly:
- IEC 61970
- IEC 61968
- SQL
- XML
- Python
- Network model migration.
- EMS commissioning.
- EMS platform upgrades.
- Network model validation and testing.
Technical Knowledge
A strong understanding of power system operations and transmission networks is essential. You should be comfortable working with detailed electrical network representations and understanding how physical grid assets, network topology, SCADA telemetry, and EMS applications interact.
Knowledge of Common Information Model (CIM) standards and data exchange between power system applications would be an advantage.
