Power Systems Engineer - Bicester

We now seek a fully experienced Power Systems Engineer to join our Bicester office.

Role Responsibilities

  • Design and analyse electrical power systems including generation, transmission, distribution, and protection networks
  • Perform load flow, short circuit, transient stability, and power quality studies
  • Develop single-line diagrams, protection coordination studies, and arc flash analyses
  • Size and specify electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, cables, and busbars
  • Lead the design team for a HV/MV sub-station including coordination of other disciplines including civil, mechanical, and control systems engineers in order to provide a turnkey package at concept and detailed design stages
  • Understanding software tools (e.g., ETAP, PFD, PSCAD, etc.) to model and simulate power systems for harmonic analysis, RMS, EMT and power factor correction studies
  • Conduct relay coordination and protection system design
  • Evaluate system reliability using methods such as Fault Tree analysis
  • Develop engineering deliverables including calculations, specifications, and equipment data sheets
  • Support procurement by reviewing vendor submittals and technical bid evaluations
  • Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, and startup phases
  • Relevant sectors: Data centres and critical facilities, Electric utilities and grid operators, Oil and gas / petrochemical, Renewable energy developers and Industrial manufacturing
  • Engage with other Engie Group Business Units to promote complimentary sustainable infrastructure solutions for our combined client base. In particular develop working relationships with the relevant people within Tractebel to deliver projects
  • Work with the Central Engineering and R&D teams to assist with incorporating new technologies and tools into the Energy Transition market
  • Undertake site visits of existing installations for the purposes of proposing remedial solutions and commercial bids.
  • Maintain knowledge of the latest technologies and regulations relating to demand side reduction, renewable energy generation, energy storage and electricity grid connections and initiatives.
  • Promote both within Red and externally, knowledge of the latest technologies and regulations relating to demand side reduction, renewable energy generation, energy storage and electricity grid connections and initiatives.
  • Create, develop and build long-term professional customer relationships with existing, new and potential clients through networking, social media and attending industry events.
  • Be able to comprehend, analyse, and interpret various types of business documents such as complex and lengthy RFP documents with detailed SOW.
  • Solve problems involving different technical and/or management options when demanded by different situations, using wherever possible existing company tools or tools within the wider ENGIE group.
  • Help to build credibility and trust quickly with C-Level executives/decision makers for new and existing clients.
  • Ensure commercial documentation such as NDAs MSAs and Ts and Cs are negotiated, agreed and valid on an ongoing basis.
  • Coordinate the internal ENGIE and Tractebel network of multi-disciplined teams to provide the most effective inter-company teams for opportunities
  • Represent the company at technical meetings with customers, professional teams and contractors’ teams
  • Understand and comply in full with company governance and due diligence as per the Red company guidelines.
  • Production of technical white papers to promote the technical capabilities of Red in the sustainable infrastructure domain.
  • Raise the company and business profile by representing RED Engineering Design at industry events and promoting an image of professionalism always.
  • Willingness to travel and act autonomously across a multi cultural region with integrity and professionalism at all times
  • Flexible to work outside core office hours from time to time, and to travel across regions as required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be detail conscious and methodical in approach.

Role Requirements

  • BSc/BEng in appropriate engineering discipline such as mechanical, electrical or process engineering or have sufficient equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3–10 years of experience in power systems engineering (varies by seniority level)
  • Knowledge of power system analysis software (ETAP, PSS/E, SKM, or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of electrical standards (IEEE, IEC, NEC, NFPA 70E)
  • Achieved or working towards chartered status.
  • Experience in the area of building / campus scale services as well as small scale power generation including co-generation, trigeneration and decentralised renewable power generation.
  • Experience with local infrastructures including microgrids, district heating and cooling schemes, energy centres and thermal or electrical storage
  • Experience of working in different industrial sectors such as manufacturing, petrochemical, Life Sciences, Data Centres, etc.
  • Experience with renewable energy systems (solar, wind, battery storage)
  • Familiarity with SCADA, EMS, protection relays, and substation automation
  • Knowledge of grid interconnection standards and utility coordination
  • Experience with high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) systems
  • Sound knowledge & working application of key health and safety issues and legislation
  • Appreciation & working knowledge of contract and business law
  • Knowledge of MS office applications Word, Excel etc
  • Flexible and self-motivational approach to work
  • Ability to use IT” based calculation and spreadsheet software
  • Good understanding of British and EU standards/ UK regulations/codes
  • Ability to prioritise own workload
  • Ability to work to deadlines

  • Leadership & mentoring skills
  • Chairing/facilitation of meeting skills
  • Background in consulting, engineering contracting or project management preferred.
  • Good understanding of international working and business operations of a global consultancy.
