Job Title - Powerplant Engineer - Naval GT
Location – Portsmouth Naval base with occasional travel to Bristol.
Full Time / Permanent
Position Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Lifecycle Engineering strategy of Rolls Royce Naval products as a Powerplant Engineer - Naval GT. This role will provide world-class technical support for in-service/delivered products and influence maturity throughout the product life cycle to meet customer and business needs, ensuring Design Intent is met.
This role helps to ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective product attributes are defined and maintained by means of through-life modelling of product reliability, deterioration mechanisms, costs, and help implement robust & cost-effective solutions.
What you will be doing:
- Management of known and potential safety issues (SAR & RT) and appropriate involvement in safety boards as defined in Safety Management Plan.
- Provide technical support to help resolve technical queries and operational arisings.
- Work with the Naval Lifecycle Engineering team to lead Investigation of operational issues to establish root cause.
- Work with the Naval Lifecycle Engineering team to introduce containment actions and recommend corrective actions.
- Provide technical surveillance and quality assurance audits to support continuous product enhancement for customer satisfaction and business expectation.
- Develop and approve the technical content of technical publications/communications (used by OEM, build/commissioning/maintenance bases and customers) including acceptance limit development.
- Set reliability targets (such as operational disruption metrics) based on historical data and monitor performance against targets.
- Predict future safety and reliability performance based on failure rates, adopting statistical techniques to support Numerical Risk Assessment, Parametric Distribution, and fly-forward analysis.
- Identify and lead cost reduction opportunities by reviewing and maintaining Lifecycle Engineering policies and any associated maintenance planning documentation.
- Manage any issues that affect the Maturity, Lifecycle Cost, Reliability, and Maintainability, and maintain Design Intent.
- Provide lifecycle technical data (build/commissioning/in-service/decommissioning) and model/support modelling of through-life performance, deterioration mechanisms, and service attributes to create and maintain time on platform prediction, identify opportunities for optimization, and support the generation of the Service Operation Validation Strategy.
- Prepare and deliver technical communications (e.g., presentations and/or reports) to platform provider, regulators, customers, internal stakeholders.
- Lead and integrate Health Monitoring system requirements.
- Identify requirements for new Health Monitoring System or capability.
- Ensure compliance with requirements specified by regulatory authorities and adhere to technical and business requirements of internal & external stakeholders. Where delegated, act as the Technical Authority providing assurance on build, commissioning, and maintenance activities.
- Gather in-service data and carry out continuous improvement by identifying Best Practice and Learning from Experience activities, feeding back into Naval Lifecycle and product design teams.

Position Qualifications:
- Engineering or Numerical degree (or equivalent with experience).
- Knowledge of components/systems functionality and numerical methods.
- Experience of working on complex tasks that are novel and ambiguous.
- Familiarity with the in-service operation environment, including regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Experience in troubleshooting and/or problem resolution.
- Experience in support/lead cross-functional teams, e.g., specialists, suppliers, customers, partners.
- Proven ability to exercise engineering judgment to identify reliability issues and trends, root cause, and develop costed solutions.
- Be commercially astute, demonstrating a knowledge of Naval contract constructs and opportunities for improvement.
