Powertica Graduate Shift Trader

Location: Edinburgh City Centre (100% office-based)
Hours: Full-time, 24/7 shift pattern

Are you a highly motivated graduate with a passion for problem-solving, data and financial markets? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where every day brings new challenges? Powertica Commodities UK Ltd is looking for ambitious graduates to join us as Graduate Shift Traders. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in one of the UK's most dynamic energy trading businesses, working alongside experienced traders and industry experts while building the technical and commercial skills needed for a successful career in commodity trading.

From day one, you'll receive structured training, mentoring and real responsibility, helping to develop your understanding of the UK energy markets and the commercial decisions that keep them running. You must be able to commit to a shift pattern on a 24/7 shift trading desk. This placement will also require successful candidates to be based entirely in the Edinburgh office, rather than working remotely. Graduates will be assigned a mentor and buddy to help you integrate into the business.

Why join Powertica?

Powertica is a fast-growing energy trading company working alongside InterGen, one of the UK's largest independent power generators with 2.8GW of CCGT and OCGT generation capacity. We combine the agility and innovation of a growing business with the stability and scale of an established energy portfolio. As part of our trading team, you'll have the opportunity to make a genuine impact while learning from experienced professionals in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
