Overview

Expleo is a trusted partner for end-to-end, integrated engineering, quality services and management consulting for digital transformation. We help businesses harness unrelenting technological change to successfully deliver innovations that will help them gain a competitive advantage and improve the everyday lives of people around the globe.

As part of our continued support to a major automotive client, we are seeking a Powertrain Engine Engineer to support the design, development, and delivery of high-performance combustion engine components and subsystems across vehicle programmes. Reporting to the Senior Powertrain Engineer, the role focuses on identifying, analysing, and resolving powertrain component issues encountered in service while contributing to the development and integration of robust engineering solutions.

Working within a multidisciplinary team of powertrain engineers and technical experts, the successful candidate will take ownership of component and subsystem design from concept through to delivery, ensuring alignment with programme targets for cost, quality, and timing. The role also involves close collaboration with vehicle integration teams, suppliers, and development partners to ensure seamless integration of engine systems within the wider vehicle architecture.

This position offers the opportunity to influence the application of existing and emerging technologies within high-performance vehicle programmes while supporting the delivery of innovative powertrain solutions.

Responsibilities

Powertrain Engine Design & Development

  • Design and develop engine components and subsystems from concept through development and release for vehicle programmes.
  • Investigate and resolve powertrain failures identified in service, implementing robust engineering solutions.
  • Support the design and integration of engine systems within the wider vehicle architecture.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and application of appropriate powertrain technologies across engine programmes.

Engineering Investigation & Problem Resolution

  • Apply structured problem-solving techniques to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Utilise methodologies such as 8D, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Fishbone/Ishikawa, and IS/IS NOT analysis.
  • Manage Quality Concern Reports (QCRs) and Quality Notifications (QNs), ensuring effective resolution and documentation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
