The Role
Brackley, UK
Powertrain Integration Engineers sit at the heart of Formula 1 performance, connecting systems such as the gearbox, hydraulics, cooling, fuel, clutch and exhausts into a package capable of delivering results on track. Working from first principles, they take concepts through design, validation and race application, solving complex engineering challenges and collaborating across disciplines to unlock performance, reliability and lap time gains. We are currently recruiting for an experienced Powertrain Integration Design Engineer to join the Team.
Key Responsibilities
- Taking technical ownership of Powertrain design projects from early concept through to end of use
- Producing schemes, designs, models and manufacturing drawings for performance, reliability, upgrade and fault-fix programmes
- Working across key Powertrain Integration areas, including gearbox, hydraulics, clutch, PU cooling systems, fuel systems, pneumatics and exhaust systems
- Collaborating with departments such as Build, Dyno, Test & Development, R&D, Systems, Controls, Vehicle Performance, Inspection and Quality
- Applying engineering calculations and first-principles thinking to support robust, right-first-time design work
- Working closely with in-house manufacturing teams and external suppliers to balance performance, reliability, cost and delivery
- Supporting validation, prove-out and feedback loops from dyno testing, servicing, race events and car build activity
- Collaborating with Mercedes High Performance Powertrains to identify, measure and deliver the best overall car-level solutions
- Developing relationships with technical partners to push boundaries and unlock new capability
- Contributing to longer-term capability projects that improve reliability, efficiency and engineering performance

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
