About the Role:

H&MV Engineering is seeking a proactive Public Relations & Community Liaison Officer to lead stakeholder communications and community engagement across major electrical infrastructure projects.

The role will act as the primary public-facing representative for projects involving substations, grid connections, cable routes and related infrastructure, ensuring clear, timely and transparent communication with local communities, businesses, authorities and statutory stakeholders. The successful candidate will manage engagement around construction activities, traffic management, road closures and other project impacts while protecting and enhancing H&MV's reputation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver stakeholder engagement and communication plans for major infrastructure projects.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local authorities, highways bodies, utilities, emergency services, businesses, communities, National Grid and DNOs.
  • Act as the primary contact for stakeholder enquiries, complaints, consultations and project updates.
  • Manage community engagement activities, public information campaigns and notifications relating to construction works, road closures and traffic management.
  • Resolve stakeholder concerns, maintain issue logs and implement mitigation measures to manage community and reputational risks.
  • Prepare newsletters, press releases, stakeholder briefings, social media content and other external communications.
  • Coordinate with project, construction, design, traffic management, environmental and planning teams to ensure aligned communications and stakeholder engagement.
  • Maintain engagement records, ensure compliance with planning requirements and support ESG and Social Value initiatives.

Key Requirements:

  • Degree, diploma or equivalent qualification in Communications, Public Relations, Stakeholder Engagement, Community Relations, Business or a related discipline.
  • 3–5 years' experience in stakeholder engagement, public affairs, community relations or public relations within infrastructure, utilities, energy, transport or construction projects.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proven experience managing complex stakeholder environments involving public authorities, local communities and disruptive construction activities.
  • Strong track record handling community concerns, road closure impacts, traffic management issues and sensitive media enquiries.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Strong organisational, project coordination, negotiation and conflict resolution abilities, with the capability to manage multiple priorities independently.
