About the Role
AWS Professional Services is looking for a senior hands-on technical leadership role. The consultant will own the Application Modernisation workstream for a large-scale legacy modernisation program, specifically owning the end-to-end decomposition of a mission-critical Oracle monolith into modern, business-modelled domain APIs. They will define service boundaries, sequence the teardown across business domains, and design production APIs that balance future-state architecture ambition with pragmatic delivery risk. They will work alongside an Agentic AI workstream lead and influence the broader program strategy.
This is not a pure migration or lift-and-shift role. It is a strategic technical leadership position requiring the ability to decompose complex legacy systems with decades of encoded business logic, design production-grade APIs at enterprise scale, and coach senior customer stakeholders through architecture decisions that balance modernisation ambition with operational risk.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Own the Application Modernisation workstream end-to-end: domain decomposition strategy, service boundary definition, API design, solution architecture, and delivery governance.
- Lead the decomposition of a ~30-year-old Oracle monolith into business-modelled domain APIs.
- Define and sequence the domain teardown across multiple business units, managing dependencies and minimising disruption to consuming applications.
- Design production, web-facing APIs with clear versioning strategies that avoid breaking existing consumers during progressive migration.
- Navigate the tension between future-facing domain contracts and pragmatic v1 designs that limit application rework and regression risk.
- Establish the end-to-end modernisation process: from legacy discovery and domain mapping through to API specification, solution design review, and cutover planning.
- Collaborate with the Agentic AI workstream lead to define how AI-assisted discovery integrates with human-led business architecture and domain design decisions.
- Advise senior customer stakeholders (including enterprise architects, business domain owners, and programme leadership) on architecture direction, sequencing trade-offs, and how much change to absorb per phase.
- Serve as the senior technical authority on legacy decomposition, working across modernisation architects, application developers, data engineers, and customer SMEs.
- Mentor and uplift team capability in legacy modernisation patterns, domain-driven design, and API-first delivery.
- Establish and maintain technical governance: solution design reviews, domain API design standards, and change impact assessment processes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
