Ipswich, Suffolk (UK) | Permanent | Flexible/hybrid working | Full time

We’re looking for an experienced communications professional to join Pier at either Senior Account Executive or Account Manager level, depending on experience.

You might come from PR, communications, stakeholder engagement or a related field. Job title matters less to us than your ability to communicate confidently, write brilliantly and keep multiple projects moving.

You’ll work across a varied portfolio of clients, combining PR and media relations, stakeholder relations, social and digital content, campaigns, research and events. You’ll have regular direct contact with clients and will be expected to take ownership of your work, stay highly organised and proactively spot opportunities.

What you’ll do

  • Write strong press releases, features, event material, social content, blogs, briefings and other communications materials.
  • Develop media angles, pitch stories to journalists and build strong media relationships
  • Manage stakeholder relations, keep excellent records and manage regular reporting
  • Plan and create social and digital content and support influencer/creator activity
  • Work directly with clients and keep projects, deadlines, actions and meetings moving
  • Juggle several accounts and priorities while maintaining excellent attention to detail
  • Contribute ideas to campaigns, client planning and new business pitches
  • Help plan and deliver events, including practical tasks such as preparing materials, transporting equipment, setting up venues and packing down afterwards
  • Liaise with suppliers including designers, photographers, venues and printers
  • Monitor time and budgets and help ensure client work is delivered efficiently

What we’re looking for You’ll have at least 2–3 years’ experience in a relevant communications role and will be able to demonstrate:

  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Confidence talking to journalists and clients
  • Good knowledge of PR, media, social media and digital communications
  • Strong organisational and project-management skills
  • The ability to work independently and use your initiative
  • A proactive approach – you spot opportunities rather than wait to be told what to do
  • The ability to manage several competing deadlines without losing sight of the detail
  • A practical, collaborative attitude and willingness to get stuck in
  • A full UK driving licence and confidence driving a company or hire vehicle when required

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience in sustainability, renewable energy, infrastructure, food & drink or stakeholder engagement would be useful but isn’t essential. Pier works across both B2B and B2C clients and in multiple industries.

SAE or AM? We’re open to appointing either an experienced Senior Account Executive ready for more responsibility or someone already operating at Account Manager level.

An SAE will confidently deliver work, take ownership of projects and increasingly work independently. An AM will bring greater experience and judgement, taking broader responsibility for client delivery, planning, budgets and more complex work.

We’ll appoint at the level that reflects your experience and capability. Salary – competitive.

For more than a decade, we’ve been at the forefront of the renewables revolution, supporting wind, solar and battery developers, supply chain businesses and organisations across the wider renewable energy sector.

Clients choose Pier for our specialist knowledge of both the renewables industry and the planning process.

We support major renewable energy developments seeking Development Consent Orders (DCOs), as well as smaller projects working towards planning consent, delivering robust consultation and stakeholder engagement throughout the process.

For clients across the wider renewables sector, our in-depth industry knowledge and strong media relationships underpin effective PR, campaigns and reputation management.

Beyond renewables, we help businesses turn their sustainability ambitions into credible, engaging communications and campaigns that make an impact. From large-scale events and integrated campaigns to PR and digital content, we craft compelling stories that engage audiences and inspire action.
