TPF Recruitment, the leading accountancy practice recruiters in the South, are delighted to be supporting a well established and growing accountancy practice with the recruitment of an experienced Practice Accountant.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounts professional who enjoys working closely with clients and wants to take ownership of a portfolio of predominantly owner managed businesses and small to medium sized companies.
The role would suit someone who is personable, commercially minded and confident dealing directly with clients, whilst also being technically strong across accounts preparation and tax.
The Role
You will manage a varied portfolio of OMB and SME clients, acting as a trusted point of contact and overseeing their accounting and tax requirements.
The role will involve a combination of client management, accounts review, accounts preparation and tax work, with the opportunity to build strong long term relationships with clients.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing a portfolio of predominantly OMB and SME clients
- Acting as a key point of contact and building strong, long term client relationships
- Liaising with clients regularly by phone, email and in person
- Reviewing accounts preparation work completed by junior members of the team
- Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
- Preparing and reviewing corporation tax computations and returns
- Supporting with personal tax returns and associated tax work
- Providing clients with general accounting and tax advice
- Reviewing bookkeeping and VAT work where required
- Identifying opportunities to provide additional support and advisory services to clients
- Working closely with Partners and senior team members on more complex matters
- Supporting and mentoring more junior members of the team
- Managing your own workload and ensuring client deadlines are met
- Keeping up to date with relevant accounting and tax legislation
- Assisting with ad hoc advisory and client projects

Requirements
The Ideal Candidate
- AAT, ACCA or ACA qualified, or qualified by experience
- Solid experience within an accountancy practice
- Strong experience across accounts preparation for OMB and SME clients
- Previous experience managing a portfolio of clients
- Comfortable reviewing accounts preparation work
- Good knowledge of corporation tax and personal tax
- Confident dealing directly with clients and building relationships
- Personable, approachable and commercially minded
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Able to work independently and take ownership of client work
- Experience supervising or supporting junior team members would be advantageous
- A genuine interest in developing strong client relationships and providing a high quality service
