Legal Practice Manager – Essex

An established and highly regarded law firm in Essex is looking to appoint an experienced Practice Manager to play a key role in the continued development and success of the firm.

This is a senior and varied position, working closely with the Partners and taking responsibility for the effective day-to-day management of the practice. The role will cover operations, HR, recruitment, compliance and wider business development, with genuine scope to influence how the firm operates and grows.

The Role

The successful Practice Manager will take responsibility for:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the firm and ensuring the smooth running of the practice.
  • Managing and supporting the firm's administrative and support teams.
  • Taking responsibility for HR and recruitment, including recruitment processes, onboarding, staff development and employee matters.
  • Reviewing and improving internal processes, systems and workflows to increase efficiency.
  • Working closely with the Partners on the strategic development and growth of the firm.
  • Supporting resource planning and the effective allocation of people and resources.
  • Overseeing regulatory compliance and ensuring the firm maintains appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Supporting the delivery of consistently high standards of client service.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve the commercial and operational performance of the practice.

About You

  • Previous experience as a Practice Manager within a law firm is essential.
  • The successful candidate will ideally have:
    • Proven experience managing a legal practice, with a strong understanding of the operational requirements of a law firm.
    • Experience across HR and recruitment, with the confidence to take ownership of these areas.
    • Strong leadership and people-management skills.
    • A good understanding of legal regulatory requirements and compliance.
    • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • A commercial and strategic approach, with the confidence to work closely with Partners and senior stakeholders.
    • A proactive, hands-on approach, with the ability to identify problems and implement practical solutions.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
