Experienced Leader in Children’s Social Care
Are you an experienced leader in children’s social care with a passion for improvement? Then we would love to hear from you and welcome your application!
About the Role
We’re looking for a Social Work Practice Manager for a 12-month secondment opportunity to lead, inspire, and support a dedicated team delivering high-quality social work services for children and families. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team at the forefront of the Family First reforms, piloting the new Family Help approach by integrating early help with statutory social work support. You will work closely alongside Early Help managers and keyworkers as part of the Eastbourne area pilot, helping shape county-wide implementation from January 2027.
This role requires strong leadership and the ability to motivate others, promoting a values-based approach that achieves positive outcomes for children and families. As Practice Manager, you’ll also be responsible for overseeing performance, quality assurance, budgets, and resources, all while making sure the service meets organisational standards and priorities.
A key part of the role is monitoring and improving the quality of practice through regular case audits and reviews, while also supporting the development of students, newly qualified social workers including those undertaking the ASYE programme, and experienced practitioners. By creating a supportive and learning-focused environment, you will help your team grow and perform to their best.
Requirements
The people we are looking for in this vital position will have:
- Recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with the professional regulatory body.
- Specialist training (academic or in-house provision e.g., advanced Motivational Interviewing, Adult Attachment training etc)
- Level 1 Practice Educator Professional, currently undertaking the course or evidence of a confirmed space to undertake the course.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
