IPS Finance is working with an established independent accountancy practice in Barnsley on the appointment of a Practice Manager.
This is an opportunity to join a successful local firm at an important stage in its development, taking a key role in the day to day running of the practice and working closely with the existing owners.
The firm has a loyal and established client base, predominantly made up of owner managed businesses, and has built its reputation around providing a personal and commercially focused service.
For the right person, there is scope for the position to develop beyond a traditional Practice Manager role, with the potential for future buy in and an ownership stake in the firm.
Key responsibilities
- Managing a portfolio of owner managed business clients and acting as a key point of contact
- Reviewing accounts and tax work prepared by the wider team
- Preparing accounts where required, particularly for more complex clients
- Supporting and developing junior and qualified members of the team
- Overseeing workflow and helping to manage deadlines across the practice
- Advising clients on accounting software, systems and general business matters
- Working closely with the owners on the continued development of the firm
- Building strong relationships with existing clients and identifying opportunities to provide additional support
- Playing an increasingly important role in the management and future direction of the practice

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
