Pre-Analytic Processor Opportunity
A permanent, part-time vacancy has arisen for a Pre-Analytic Processor in the Pathology Specimen Reception at Furness General Hospital, Lancashire and South Cumbria Pathology Service, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Pathology is at the heart of healthcare. Pathology Reception is the starting point of every specimen's analytical journey, from inpatient to outpatient everything starts with us.
You will be joining a busy team providing an essential Blood Sciences and Microbiology service for patients in the North Lancashire and South Cumbria area.
Role Overview
This is a part-time vacancy working 23.5 hours per week:
- Tuesday: 12:00-20:00 (30 min unpaid break)
- Wednesday: 12:00-20:00 (30 min unpaid break)
- Friday: 09:00-13:00
- Sunday: alternate 09:00-15:00 week one and 12:00-15:00 week two per rota

Responsibilities
- Perform clerical and reception duties within the laboratory
- Receive samples for laboratory testing and ensure all details of the request forms and samples match
- Enter samples into the laboratory system
- Act as the first point of reference for enquiries into the department
- Assist patients with general enquiries on the telephone and face to face
- Welcome and offer advice to patients arriving in the department for blood collection in the Phlebotomy clinic
Requirements
- Must be reliable and able to work under pressure to extremely high standards
- Enthusiastic, organised, methodical, and highly motivated
- Full training will be given for all aspects of the role; previous experience is not essential
- Participation in the bank holiday, evening, and weekend rota as required
