ABOUT JSM
JSM Group designs and builds the power networks and digital infrastructure that clients across the UK, Europe and beyond depend on, from high-voltage grid connections and critical utilities to data centres and renewable energy. Our civil, power and digital engineers work under one roof, giving clients one team from design to energisation, with the technical, commercial and consenting risk managed from day one.
Belonging here isn’t accidental; it’s engineered. Our values of personal responsibility, sound judgment and drive shape how we work, and you’ll get the work to stretch you and the support to develop fast. See life at JSM at careers.jsmgroup.com.
ABOUT THE TEAM
You'll join our Pre-Construction & Engineering team at Potters Bar — the engineers, estimators and project managers who take projects from first enquiry through to construction start. You'll work day-to-day with project managers and estimators, and regularly with clients, local authorities and suppliers.
THE ROLE
This role makes sure every project leaves pre-construction with its documentation, permits, budgets and approvals complete, so construction can start on time. You'll report to the Head of Engineering, managing their diary and workload, and also support the Head of Pre-Construction.
What you'll do
- Prepare and maintain all pre-construction documentation, contracts, permits, drawings and specifications and the filing systems behind it
- Track project timelines so every document and submission lands on deadline
- Work with project managers and estimators to track pre-construction budgets and spend, produce cost reports and gather quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
- Secure permits and approvals from local authorities and agencies, and track compliance with safety and environmental requirements
- Schedule and run pre-construction meetings (agendas, minutes and actions) and act as the link between internal teams, clients and external stakeholders
Reasons to use Rodeo
I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
