I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Rates:
Pre-operative Assessment Nurse
- Limited company: £350 per day
- PAYE: £304 per day, before deduction of income tax and employee National Insurance contributions.
Healthcare Assistant
- Limited company: £220 per day
- PAYE: £191.30 per day, before deduction of income tax and employee National Insurance contributions.
For both roles, the rate that applies to you depends on an IR35 assessment for each assignment, and Frontline Insourcing covers the full cost of that assessment. Working Pattern and Training
Clinics run on Saturdays and Sundays from 08:00 to 18:00. Rotas are confirmed and locked two weeks in advance, so you will know your shifts well ahead of time. Before your first shift, you will need to complete the Trust’s mandatory training, a service induction and clinical system training. Please make yourself available for these sessions before you start weekend working, so that clinics run without disruption on the day.
Why We Are Recruiting Now
Frontline Insourcing delivers clinical services for NHS Trusts across a wide range of specialties and settings. Trusts rightly expect a provider to staff a service from the point of award. Building our team in advance gives them that assurance and helps services start on time. As a result, we may sometimes recruit ahead of confirmed demand, and we will be straightforward with you about that at every stage. We will not tell you that work is imminent when it is not, and we will not ask you to complete compliance checks until there is a realistic prospect of an assignment.
Pay and Assignments
Before we ask you to commit, you will receive full details of each assignment, including the location, dates, shift times, clinical scope, rate and payment terms. Nothing is confirmed until you accept in writing. The Trust sets clinic numbers in line with demand, so the volume of work may vary over the life of the service. Joining our bank places you under no obligation to accept work, and declining an assignment has no bearing on future offers.
How You Will Be Paid
For both roles, how you are paid depends on the IR35 status determination for each assignment and, where both routes are available, on your own preference. Before you accept any assignment within the off-payroll working rules, you will receive a Status Determination Statement setting out the conclusion and the reasons for it. Depending on that determination, we will engage you either through our own payroll or through your own limited company. We will explain:
- the options available to you,
- their effect on your take-home pay, and
- your right to disagree with a determination through our status disagreement process.
If you are paid through PAYE, we will deduct income tax and National Insurance at source, and you will accrue holiday pay in line with the Working Time Regulations 1998. We do not operate or promote arrangements designed to disguise remuneration, and we will not engage anyone through such a scheme.
Payment Through Your Own Limited Company
Where an assignment is determined to fall outside IR35, you may provide your services through your own limited company. Your company will invoice Frontline Insourcing for shifts worked, supported by timesheets approved by the service. We will pay invoices gross, without deducting income tax or National Insurance contributions, on the terms set out in your assignment confirmation. Your company remains responsible for its own corporation tax, VAT where registered and statutory filings. You remain responsible for your personal tax affairs as a director. Before your first assignment, we will ask for:

- your Certificate of Incorporation and registered company details,
- business bank account details in the company’s name,
- your VAT registration number, where applicable, and
- evidence of appropriate insurance.
Where an assignment is determined to fall inside IR35, we will pay you through our own payroll at the PAYE rate for your role, with income tax and National Insurance deducted at source. The PAYE rate is £304 per day for Pre-operative Assessment Nurses and £191.30 per day for Healthcare Assistants.
Equal Opportunities
Frontline Insourcing is committed to equality of opportunity and to a workforce that reflects the diverse communities the NHS serves. We welcome registrations regardless of any protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010. We will make reasonable adjustments at every stage of registration and deployment on request. As a Disability Confident Committed employer (Level 1), we guarantee an interview to any disabled applicant who meets the essential criteria. We will also work with you on any adjustment you need to take up work.
Safer Recruitment
Frontline Insourcing operates a safer recruitment framework aligned to NHS Employers pre-employment check standards. Every engagement depends on satisfactory completion of:
- identity and right to work verification,
- NMC registration verification, for nurses,
- an Enhanced DBS check with the appropriate barred list check,
- occupational health clearance,
- a full employment history, and
- satisfactory references.
Offers of work are conditional until all checks are complete. If you fail to disclose relevant information, we may withdraw an offer or remove you from the bank.
How We Handle Your Information

We process special category data, including health information, on the basis of the provision of health care and the management of health care systems.
