Job Description

IMDEA Energy is opening a Predoctoral Researcher position for the Advanced Porous Materials Unit. This role is focused on the preparation of photo/electro conductive Metal Organic Frameworks, their characterization, and application in green hydrogen production. The position is part of the HYDRAGON project (PCI2025-163274), funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and co-funded by the European Union, under the M-ERA.NET 2024 call for proposals.

Tasks

  • Synthesis of squarate-based metal organic frameworks (MOFs) with photo/electroactive properties using various methods (e.g., high-throughput solvothermal, microwaves).
  • Synthesis and characterization of polycomplexant modified organic ligands (e.g., NMR, IR, MS).
  • Structure doping with metal cations and modified organic ligands; development of novel MOF structures through defect engineering.
  • Full structural, physicochemical, spectroscopic, and electrochemical characterization of the obtained materials using techniques such as XRD, IR, gas sorption, TGA, UV-Vis, and electronic microscopy.
  • Critical analysis of results, regular writing of reports, and elaboration of presentations for discussions with academic and industrial partners.
  • Dissemination and publication of research results in scientific journals.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
