Description
The Technical Consultant engages with customers to understand their business needs, designs tailored IT solutions, and presents these solutions as a trusted advisor. This role leverages technical expertise to remove barriers in the selling process, articulates the value proposition of HP products and services, and supports both the sales team and customers throughout the engagement. The Technical Consultant is responsible for technical solution development, pre-sales support, and ensuring successful adoption and integration of HP solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with customers to understand business requirements and design tailored IT solutions that align with technical capabilities and business objectives.
- Lead product demonstrations, answer client questions, and highlight key features to increase client confidence and buy-in.
- Conduct technical evaluations, validate solution feasibility, identify risks, and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Develop technical documentation, specifications, and pricing models for proposals.
- Educate clients on technical aspects of solutions and integration with existing infrastructure.
- Conduct proof-of-concepts (PoCs) or pilot projects to demonstrate solution value in real-world environments.
- Build strong, ongoing relationships with prospective clients, addressing technical queries and concerns throughout the sales cycle.
- Provide training and support to the sales team on technical aspects of products and solutions.
- Perform competitive analysis and advise the sales team on effective product positioning.
- Collaborate with sales team members to uncover new opportunities and build lasting relationships with technical decision-makers.
- Lead meetings and presentations to gather insights into client IT infrastructure, challenges, and goals.
- Qualify potential opportunities and develop comprehensive, customized technical solutions.
- Support the sales team in creating and delivering impactful presentations and demonstrations.
- Respond promptly and accurately to customer technical inquiries and concerns.
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure proposed solutions are fully aligned with customer needs.
- Provide hands-on technical assistance during proof-of-concepts and evaluations.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor offerings.

Experience
Relevant experience in technical consulting, pre-sales, or solution development (typically 3–5+ years for such roles).
Qualifications
- Proven experience in technical solution development and pre-sales support.
- Experience in IT infrastructure, networking, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of market trends and ability to turn insights into business opportunities.
Education
Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise in HP IT strategy, managed solutions, digital services, and professional services.
- Deep understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, cloud computing, and cybersecurity principles.
- Proficiency in solution selling, technical presentations, and product demonstrations.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts in simple terms.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills for technical solution development and opportunity qualification.
- Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with CRM systems and sales analytics tools.
- Market awareness and ability to stay updated on industry trends and competitor offerings.
- New Technology and AI: demonstrated curiosity and confidence in adopting emerging tools and technologies—especially AI—to enhance sales performance, customer engagement, and productivity. The ability to quickly learn, adapt, and apply digital solutions in daily workflows, and to use AI insights to drive smarter decisions and more personalized customer interactions.
