Preschool Room Leader & Third in Charge

Salary: £33,000 – £35,000 per annum, depending on experience

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, shifts between 07:30 and 18:30

Are you an experienced Preschool Room Leader looking for an exciting opportunity to progress your career within a brand-new, purpose-built nursery?

We are seeking an enthusiastic early years professional to lead the Preschool Room while supporting the Nursery Manager and Deputy Manager with the day-to-day leadership and operation of the setting.

The Role

As Third in Charge, you will support the Nursery Manager and Deputy Manager in maintaining the safe, effective and high-quality operation of the nursery.

You will lead the Preschool Room, provide guidance to practitioners and ensure children receive engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences aligned with the EYFS.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading room practice
  • Supporting staff development
  • Overseeing planning and assessments
  • Promoting school readiness
  • Maintaining high safeguarding standards
  • Building positive relationships with parents

You will also take responsibility for the safe and effective running of the nursery when the Nursery Manager and Deputy Manager are absent.

Curriculum & School Readiness

You will deliver a structured and engaging educational programme for children aged 3–5 years, with a focus on early literacy, mathematics, language development, understanding the world, problem solving and curiosity.

You will support children's personal, social and emotional development, independence, confidence and readiness for school, while maintaining an effective balance between adult-led teaching and child-initiated play.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Preschool Room Leader with a genuine passion for early years education and the confidence to take on wider leadership responsibilities.

You will need a relevant Level 3 or above Early Years qualification, previous room leadership experience, strong knowledge of the EYFS and safeguarding requirements, and excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.

An Early Years Degree, QTS or EYTS would be highly desirable, as would experience working with children aged 3–5, delivering structured learning activities, completing observations and assessments, or working as a Deputy or Third in Charge.

You will be a warm, patient and nurturing professional who can lead and motivate a team while maintaining consistently high standards of education, care and safeguarding.

You will be organised, proactive and confident communicating with children, parents and colleagues. Most importantly, you will be passionate about children's development and committed to creating an environment where children can learn, explore and thrive.

Location

The nursery is based in Royal Wharf, London, E16 2SQ, approximately 10 minutes' walk from Pontoon Dock and West Silvertown DLR stations and 15 minutes' walk from the Elizabeth Line.
