Role Overview
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Prescribing Technician to join a primary care team on a part-time permanent basis. The successful candidate will support the delivery of a patient-centred medicines management service, working closely with GPs, pharmacists, practice staff, community pharmacies and other healthcare professionals. You will play an important role in ensuring medicines are prescribed safely and appropriately, supporting medicines reconciliation, repeat prescribing processes, medication queries and ongoing medicines optimisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Action medication changes following hospital admissions, discharge summaries, outpatient appointments and consultant correspondence.
- Support repeat-prescribing processes and maintain accurate patient medication records.
- Respond to medication and prescription queries from patients, carers, care homes and community pharmacies.
- Liaise with hospitals, clinics and healthcare professionals where clarification regarding medication is required.
- Contact patients regarding medication changes, prescriptions and additional information.
- Support medicines reconciliation and medication reviews, including for patients moving between care settings.
- Work with community pharmacies to support safe and effective medicines management.
- Support prescribing audits and medicines optimisation projects.
- Implement relevant national and local prescribing guidance and formulary recommendations.
- Identify opportunities to reduce medicines waste and support cost-effective prescribing.
- Contribute to improving prescribing processes and medicines-related governance.
- Support compliance with relevant healthcare standards and requirements.
- Accurately document clinical information and complete relevant records, templates and data.
- Support requests relating to catheter and stoma products where required.
- Maintain confidentiality and work in accordance with relevant policies, procedures and professional standards.
- Contribute to quality improvement, governance and shared learning across the wider team.

Key Requirements
- Qualified Pharmacy Technician.
- GPhC registration.
- NVQ Level 3 or BTEC qualification in Pharmaceutical Science/Pharmacy.
- Experience within primary care, community pharmacy, medicines management or a similar healthcare environment.
- Good understanding of medicines management and safe prescribing processes.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workload and prioritise tasks.
- Confident working independently as well as as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
- Accurate record keeping and attention to detail.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality, equality and professional standards.
- A proactive, reliable and professional approach to work.
- Enhanced DBS/CRB clearance will be required.
