Overview
West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) is the second largest fire and rescue service in England, serving an area of 902km square and a population of some three million people. ‘Our Strategy’ drives the people, professionalism and pride with which we serve our communities.
Due to several staff taking temporary development opportunities and family leave, our Prevention Delivery Team have an exciting opportunity for a Prevention Community Outreach Team Leader.
Under the leadership of the Community Education Coordinator, you will have responsibility for management of the team, monitoring performance, capacity, and capability.
You will ensure that all interventions support individuals to reduce their risk of and vulnerability to fire, and improve their health, safety, wellbeing, and quality of life.
The ideal person for this role will be a confident leader with good interpersonal and communication skills. Key to the delivery of service will be your ability to lead, support and develop the team so that they have the skills, knowledge, and understanding to perform to the highest standards.
The position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to have a key role in, and contribute to, the development of new systems and processes to support the future direction of Prevention activities and education.
There may be some deputising for the Community Education Co-ordinator in their absence.

Responsibilities
As an individual with a passion for supporting those with multiple complex needs you will:
- Lead and manage the day-to-day work of the Prevention Officers and Prevention Practitioners in your team
- Work in a variety of non-WMFS settings, sometimes on a one-to-one basis
- Carry a defined case load
- Engage with professionals who have shared responsibility for the adult, child or young person’s health care and support needs
- Undertake any necessary training that the role requires
- Design and review processes for the efficient running of the team
- Use a range of Microsoft packages
- Manage capacity, capability, performance and attendance, plus day-to-day supervision, direction and admin of the team
Experience and skills
Essential
- Qualification in a relevant discipline, or considerable broad relevant role-related experience
- Effective communication skills
- Experience of managing staff and resources
- Role-related experience, appropriate to the requirements of the role
- Knowledge and understanding of health inequalities, behavioural, lifestyle and environmental factors that increase risk and vulnerability to fire
- Full driving licence
Desirable
- Qualification in Health and Social Care, or relevant equivalent
- Previous experience in community safety and/or Health and Wellbeing
- Understanding of National Curriculum, Local Education Authorities and Academy networks
- Experience of working with young people and adults
- Experience of software packages including Office365 (Teams, Word, Excel, etc)
