Valayo is working with a leading London Market insurer on a Pricing Actuary opportunity within a growing and highly innovative area of the business.

One of the biggest attractions of this role is that you won't simply be pricing established products or working across a traditional portfolio. Instead, you'll work closely with underwriters to develop and price new insurance solutions, alongside large portfolio facilities and bespoke partnership deals.

The work can involve new and emerging risks, innovative product structures and opportunities where there may be limited data or no established pricing approach to follow. You'll need to think about the problem, understand the risk and work out the most appropriate way to price it.

This makes the role particularly interesting for someone who enjoys the judgement and problem-solving side of pricing. Rather than applying the same methodology repeatedly, you'll move between very different types of business and adapt your approach depending on the risk, structure and information available.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You'll also have significant exposure to the underwriting side of the business. You'll work closely with underwriters on individual deals, challenge assumptions and pricing where appropriate, and help shape opportunities as they develop. The role also includes exposure to broker and client discussions.

There is a strong portfolio element too. Once business has been written, you'll help monitor performance, validate assumptions and recalibrate pricing approaches, alongside developing analytics and insights to support portfolio steering and risk selection.

Another major attraction is the visibility you'll gain across the business. Larger and more strategic opportunities can involve senior decision-makers, giving you the chance to present your work, explain your thinking and have genuine influence over how opportunities are assessed.
