This is an excellent opportunity for an actuary who enjoys combining technical expertise with commercial insight to influence business performance and shape underwriting strategy.

The Role

As a Delegated Authority Pricing Actuary you will be responsible for:

  • Onboarding and Renewing Delegated Authority Arrangements: Provide actuarial analysis, support, and advice to the Delegated Authority Underwriting team during the onboarding and renewal process, with a strong focus on performance and profitability.
  • Supporting Market-Leading Actuarial Pricing and Control: Play a key role in ensuring the profitable growth and performance of our Delegated Authority portfolio. Working closely with Underwriters, Agents and key stakeholders across the business and collaborating to enhance underlying pricing models and improve performance.
  • Comprehensive Understanding of Agency Agreements: Take a holistic view of Agency Agreements, going beyond claims performance to offer alternative solutions and improvements to commission structures, profit commissions, and reinsurance arrangements where applicable.
  • Support with Strategic Projects: Collaborate on various projects such as Financial Planning, Reserving, Financial Planning and Actuarial Systems, contributing to a range of strategic initiatives that support the achievement of our business objectives and plan.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure that all new business and renewal proposals are assessed actuarially, including margin calculations and providing peer review support within the Delegated Authority Pricing team.
  • Support Underwriters to identify and implement strategic improvements across the portfolio to optimise performance and profitability.
  • Work closely with Agents to enhance their pricing methodologies and models, recommending improvements to their rating structures.
  • Working with our Underwriters to suggest strategic improvements to our portfolio.
  • Drive the continuous development and refinement of technical pricing methodologies for assessing Delegated Authority business, ensuring alignment with evolving market conditions.
  • Lead the implementation of regular Pricing MI and engage in monthly performance reviews with each Agency to ensure alignment with business plans and goals.
  • Provide actuarial advice, recommendations, and solutions to drive profitability and ensure alignment with the broader HDI Global strategy.
  • Collaborate with Delegated Authorities to create and maintain per-risk pricing models where necessary, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Calculate appropriate loss ratios and premium projections to support the Delegated Authority business planning cycle and reserving processes.
  • Build strong and effective relationships within the business to facilitate effective commercial underwriting decisions.
  • Represent the company externally at client and broker meetings.
  • Communicate technical assumptions and pricing techniques to a non-technical audience, both internally and externally.
  • Ensure the relevant audience understands the risks and limitations of any analysis when being used to inform business decisions.
  • End to end project management of Actuarial projects and contribute to any Branch wide projects.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience of General Insurance Pricing.
  • IFoA qualified, equivalent professional qualification, or qualified by experience.
  • Good knowledge of actuarial best practice and market standards in pricing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Advanced Excel and VBA skills.
  • Experienced user in software relevant to data manipulation and reporting (e.g. SQL, PowerBI etc.) required.
  • Programming experience in Python / SQL is preferred.
