Junior Engineering Manager – AI Platforms (virtual-first)
About Us
At Sierra, we’re building a platform to empower businesses with AI, ensuring customer experiences are humanized, seamless, and impactful. Our primarily in-person, globally distributed team operates from San Francisco, with growing offices in Atlanta, London, Paris, Madrid, Munich, Singapore, Tokyo, and Sydney.
Guided by five core values—Trust, Customer Obsession, Craftsmanship, Intensity, and Family—we foster an environment where innovation thrives. Co-founders Bret Taylor (ex-Chair of OpenAI, Salesforce co-CEO, Google Maps co-creator) and Clay Bavor (ex-Lead of Google AR/VR, project Starline, Google Workspace) lead our mission to make AI safer, accessible, and immortal.
What You’ll Do
As the Junior Engineering Manager, you’ll bridge the gap between engineering excellence and cross-functional execution in Sierra’s AI platforms team. With a focus on scaling and stabilizing our core infrastructure while preparing for future product roadmap demands, you’ll:
- Own and refine engineering processes—Implement best practices for onboarding, performance reviews, and career growth within a remote-first, global team.
- Collaborate with engineering leadership—Partner closely with the Engineering Director to optimise workflows, clarify priorities, and ensure technical sustainability.
- Drive empowerment across teams—Lead and mentor engineers, fostering accountability, quality, and accountability toward our high standards of craftsmanship and intensity.
- Balance innovation and stability—Contribute to architectural discussions, documentation efforts, and knowledge-sharing while ensuring scalability without overextension.
- Own and deliver bitesize weekly stand-ups—Keep communication clear, action-oriented, and aligned with our intensity and family values.
This is a virtual-first role, requiring full ownership and initiative equal to our in-person office expectations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
