WE’RE RECRUITING: PRIMARY & 11+ ENGLISH TEACHER

High Achievers Tuition Centre (HATC)

Primary & 11+ Specialist

Pay: From £18 per hour, depending on experience. Delivery: Hybrid – in-centre at High Achievers Tuition Centre in Sittingbourne and online, depending on programme and timetable requirements.

Inspire a love of language. Build confidence. Help every learner flourish.

High Achievers Tuition Centre (HATC) is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and nurturing Primary & 11+ English Teacher with strong expertise across Key Stage 2, a secure understanding of phonics and literacy development, and experience preparing students for the demands of 11+ English.

We are looking for someone who combines strong subject knowledge with warmth, creativity and high expectations: a teacher who can identify gaps, stretch confident learners and help children become increasingly capable and independent.

WHY JOIN HATC?

We invest in our teachers as well as our students. You will join a close-knit, supportive professional community where high expectations are matched by practical support and opportunities to grow.

  • Paid planning, marking and student-feedback time: HATC recognises the work that happens outside the lesson itself, with appropriate time allocated and remunerated in line with our staff payment structure.
  • CPD and professional development: Ongoing development to strengthen subject knowledge, teaching practice and intervention skills.
  • Departmental mentorship: A clear point of support through the departmental lead for curriculum, teaching and student matters.
  • Knowledge progression: Opportunities to broaden expertise across literacy, 11+ preparation and wider English provision.
  • Supportive community: A close-knit team where colleagues collaborate and staff are not expected to handle difficult situations in isolation.
  • Collaboration and growth: Shared curriculum/resource development and opportunities to take on additional teaching, mentoring or departmental responsibilities.

We believe teachers are most effective when they are well supported, continually developing and given the space to focus on high-quality teaching.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will plan and deliver structured, engaging English tuition primarily for KS2 and 11+ students through a combination of one-to-one tuition and small-group sessions. You should be confident adapting teaching to individual learning needs while also managing differing strengths and starting points within a group.

11+ English preparation is a central part of the role. Students will need support across comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, spelling, writing and relevant verbal-reasoning skills, alongside developing accuracy and confidence under timed conditions.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The role also requires an understanding that some learners may still have gaps in earlier literacy development, including phonics, decoding, spelling and reading fluency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop strong literacy foundations, including reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, punctuation and writing.
  • Prepare students effectively for 11+ English, developing knowledge, reasoning, accuracy, vocabulary and confidence with timed assessments.
  • Use assessment and observation to identify gaps and misconceptions, providing appropriate intervention, scaffolding or additional challenge.
  • Develop confident and increasingly independent readers and writers through effective homework, feedback and consolidation.
  • Create a positive, encouraging and academically focused learning environment while maintaining professional communication, safeguarding and student-welfare standards.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Successful experience teaching English at Key Stage 2.
  • Experience preparing students for 11+ English or comparable selective-entry assessments.

  • Confidence teaching both one-to-one and small-group sessions.
  • Ability to assess students' needs and provide appropriate support or challenge.
  • Clear explanations, purposeful lesson planning and an engaging teaching style.
  • A patient, reliable and encouraging approach combined with high expectations for progress.
  • Confidence using online teaching platforms such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams, or willingness to learn.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE

  • Experience teaching KS1 English or early literacy.
  • Experience delivering or supporting phonics intervention.
  • Experience teaching Year 7 and/or Year 8 English.
  • Experience supporting students with SEND, literacy difficulties or EAL.

THE TEACHER WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You notice the child behind the answer.

You understand that effective 11+ preparation is not simply repeated practice papers: students need secure literacy foundations, strong vocabulary, careful reading, reasoning skills, accuracy and the confidence to apply what they know independently.

You can support a student who needs help with foundational reading or spelling while also stretching a high-attaining learner towards deeper comprehension, richer vocabulary and more sophisticated writing.

You can work effectively with one student or a small group, adjusting explanations, questioning, scaffolding and challenge according to what the learners in front of you need.

Above all, you share HATC's commitment to helping our superstars become capable, confident and increasingly independent learners.

We are passionate about what we do and committed to providing a warm, compassionate environment where every student feels inspired to learn, grow and achieve. Our students are at the heart of everything we do, and we hope you share that same commitment.

LOCATION & HYBRID DELIVERY

This is a hybrid teaching role. Sessions may be delivered face-to-face at High Achievers Tuition Centre in Sittingbourne or online, depending on the needs of the student, programme and timetable.

Applicants must be willing and able to teach in both formats. Sessions may include one-to-one tuition and small-group teaching, and teachers should be comfortable moving between in-centre and online delivery while maintaining the same standards of engagement, safeguarding, feedback and lesson quality.

HOW TO APPLY

Please send your CV and a short supporting statement to:

Appointment will be subject to appropriate safeguarding and suitability checks, including references and an enhanced DBS check.
