A Snapshot of Your Day

As the Primary Engineering Team Lead, you will lead a dynamic team of engineers, ensuring the delivery of innovative engineering solutions throughout the project lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with clients and stakeholders, driving performance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team.

How You’ll Make An Impact

  • Lead the delivery of Primary Engineering solutions across projects, ensuring safe and effective designs throughout the substation lifecycle.
  • Manage team performance through staff dialogues, 1-2-1 meetings, set clear objectives, maintain the team skills matrix, and support professional development.
  • Maintain focus on cost, time, and quality, ensuring compliance with engineering processes and customer specifications.
  • Oversee design governance, including approval of technical solutions, specifications, risk assessments, quality plans and supplier evaluations, ensuring consistency in outputs.
  • Monitor design performance, budgets, and tender activities, supporting procurement as needed.
  • Manage resources and workload planning, utilising internal and external teams to meet project demands.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across functions to ensure alignment and effective delivery.
  • Drive performance, innovation, and continuous improvement in tools, processes, and designs.
  • Promote strong coordination between design, site, and other departments, participating in key technical meetings.
  • Support process improvements and technology integration, including technical design approvals.
  • Provide leadership through performance management and team development, fostering high standards.

What You Bring

  • HNC or degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (e.g., Chartered) status, or currently working towards completion.
  • Minimum of 12 years’ experience in the Electricity Transmission and Distribution industry, with ideally 6 years in UK Transmission Systems.
  • Fully conversant with the latest Transmission and Distribution standards and technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of Health and Safety standards applicable to Primary Engineering.
  • Proven experience in managing teams and delivering engineering solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proactive problem-solving approach.
  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
