Role Description

The Primary School English and Maths Tutor role is a remote, contract position focused on supporting learners aged approximately 5–11 in developing core literacy and numeracy skills.

  • Planning engaging lessons aligned with curriculum standards
  • Delivering one-to-one or small-group online sessions
  • Adapting teaching methods to suit different learning styles and abilities
  • Assessing student understanding
  • Providing constructive feedback
  • Tracking progress over time using appropriate tools and resources

The role also involves:

  • Maintaining clear communication with parents or caregivers, updating them on achievements and areas for improvement
  • Collaborating with the Tutors Today team to ensure a consistent, high-quality learning experience

Qualifications

  • Strong subject knowledge in primary-level English and Maths, including reading comprehension, basic grammar, arithmetic, and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated tutoring or teaching experience with primary-aged students, ideally in an online or blended learning environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and build rapport with young learners and their families.
  • Ability to plan structured, age-appropriate lessons, differentiate instruction, and use engaging teaching strategies and resources.
  • Comfort with digital tools and online teaching platforms, including video conferencing, shared documents, and interactive learning materials.
  • Strong organizational skills, reliability in scheduling, and professionalism in managing a contract-based, remote workload.
  • Relevant education or training, such as a degree in Education or a related field, teaching qualifications, or recognized tutoring certifications (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Commitment to inclusive, student-centered teaching practices and a genuine interest in supporting diverse learners to gain confidence and improve results.
