Primary STEM Subject Specialist

Salary: £45,000-£50,000, dependent on experience

This is a full-time, hybrid role with a remote working base and regular presence at our York office, and occasional travel elsewhere as required.

The Role

Are you an experienced primary educator with substantial expertise in primary science and a passion for improving STEM education?

We are looking for a Primary STEM Subject Specialist to join our Education team. This is an exciting opportunity to use your classroom, subject leadership and professional learning experience to develop high-quality resources and provide support for primary educators.

Working closely with the Primary STEM Lead and Resources Project Coordinator, you will help to collate, review, quality assure, curate and develop high-quality primary STEM resources, including Explorify. You will also contribute to the development and delivery of evidence-informed professional learning and help maintain the quality and relevance of our primary commercial CPD offer.

What You'll Do

Professional learning

  • Develop professional learning: Design and develop evidence-informed primary STEM CPD.
  • Maintain quality: Help keep professional learning current, relevant and research-informed.
  • Apply evidence: Turn research and curriculum developments into practical support for educators.

Resources and Explorify

  • Develop resources: Review, quality assure and create primary STEM resources, including Explorify.
  • Identify opportunities: Review existing content and help shape future development.
  • Maintain quality: Ensure resources are accurate, evidence-informed and accessible.

Collaboration and impact

  • Work collaboratively: Work with colleagues, educators, authors and partners to develop high-quality resources and professional learning.
  • Stay informed: Keep up to date with developments in primary STEM education and apply these to your work.
  • Support improvement: Use evidence and feedback to improve resources and professional learning.

We’re looking for a well-rounded individual with:

  • Significant experience in primary education, with substantial expertise in primary science.
  • Experience of leading or supporting science development within a school, trust or wider educational setting.
  • Knowledge or experience of another area of STEM, such as design and technology, engineering or mathematics.
  • Experience of developing and delivering professional learning for teachers or other educators.
  • Experience of developing, reviewing or adapting educational resources.
  • A strong understanding of curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and evidence-informed practice in primary STEM education.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and organisational skills.
  • A commitment to improving outcomes for teachers and young people through high-quality STEM education.

Desirable:

  • Experience of quality assuring professional learning.
  • Experience of developing digital educational resources.
  • A relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in education, science or another STEM-related discipline.
