Primary Teaching Assistant - Upper KS2 (Years 5 & 6)

Location: Birmingham, B8

Contract: Long-term/Permanent

Day Rate: £105 - £120

Start Date: September 2026

Commutable From: Ward End, Washwood Heath, Saltley, Erdington, Small Heath

The Opportunity

Long Term Futures are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Primary Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in the B8 area, supporting pupils across Years 5 and 6.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced teachers, helping pupils prepare for the transition to secondary school and achieve their full potential in the lead-up to Key Stage 2 SATs. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of the Upper KS2 curriculum, particularly SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar), Reading, Writing, and Maths, and be confident delivering targeted interventions to raise attainment.

The school has a strong reputation within the local community and offers a supportive leadership team, excellent resources, and a collaborative environment where staff are encouraged to develop professionally.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Support teaching and learning across Years 5 and 6
  • Deliver targeted interventions to prepare pupils for KS2 SATs
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support in Reading, Writing, SPaG, and Maths
  • Reinforce classroom learning and help pupils build confidence and independence
  • Assist teachers with lesson preparation, classroom organisation, and assessment activities
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to class teachers
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage high levels of engagement
  • Help create a supportive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment

Requirements

  • Previous experience working within Upper KS2 (Years 5/6)
  • Experience supporting pupils with KS2 SATs preparation
  • Strong knowledge of SPaG, Reading, Writing, and Maths
  • Confident delivering 1:1 and small-group intervention sessions
  • Excellent communication and behaviour management skills
  • Passion for supporting pupils to achieve their full academic potential
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
