Hillside Education: Primary Teacher Opportunity
We're not looking for a Primary Teacher to simply join our school. Instead, we're looking for someone who can help shape it. We are Hillside Education, a new 36-place SEMH provision near Gotham, Nottinghamshire, opening in January 2027.
Our first referrals are coming in, we're looking for someone with primary teaching experience to help shape what school looks and feels like for our younger learners. We've got a great team of teachers coming together. What we're missing is your primary expertise.
We have no inherited systems. No staff handbook that's been passed down for twenty years. No behaviour policy based on research that belongs in a museum. In fact, we still don't have a kettle. (Watch the video. It'll make sense.)
What we do have is nearly two acres of blank canvas and an opportunity to build something special. We won't pretend that will be easy. But if you're excited by the idea of creating a culture with colleagues and young people rather than inheriting one, keep reading.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Many of the children who join Hillside will have experienced exclusion, rejection and disconnection from education. Even for our primary aged children, school can already feel like somewhere you don't belong.
We want to change that.
As we started building the school, we found ourselves asking a simple question: "If our school felt like a tribe, what would be different?" Our answer looked something like this:
- A place where everyone belongs. No exceptions.
- A place where identity comes from contribution, not status.
- A place where young people are known, valued and genuinely needed.
- A place where safety is felt through predictable relationships, calm adults and consistent routines.
- A place where conflict is expected, but repair is non-negotiable.

If that resonates with you, then we're already speaking the same language.
Our ideal teammate will have experience teaching primary-aged children, including those who have experienced trauma and adversity or have complex needs. You'll know how to build the foundations of reading, writing and maths, make room for play and curiosity, and meet children where they are.
You'll be wholeheartedly committed to relationship-based and restorative practice. Not because you've attended the training. Because you believe in it. You understand that behaviour is communication. You stay curious when others become frustrated. You believe that belonging changes lives.
If you're mostly excited and perhaps just a little bit daunted, welcome to our world. We'd love to hear from you.
