The Role:

As a Principal Acoustic Signature Analyst, you will have the opportunity to provide technical leadership across mission-critical test and evaluation programmes, supporting Defence customers through the measurement, interpretation, analysis and exploitation of underwater radiated noise signatures

Day-to-day, you will be recognised as a subject matter expert within the underwater acoustics domain and will provide consultancy, technical leadership and independent advice to customers, stakeholders and internal programmes. You will play a leading role in shaping the future direction of acoustic signature analysis capability, developing innovative analytical approaches and supporting strategic investment activities across Range Infrastructure and associated technology programmes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as the technical authority for underwater acoustic signature analysis, exploitation and complex technical challenges
  • Providing technical leadership, consultancy and strategic advice to customers, stakeholders and programme teams
  • Leading the planning, execution and delivery of acoustic signature analysis activities across major test and evaluation programmes
  • Driving innovation and capability development in acoustic analytics, data exploitation, modelling and signature knowledge management
  • Mentoring and developing analysts, engineers and scientists while contributing to technical strategy and future capability planning
  • Building trusted relationships with Defence, Government and industry stakeholders while ensuring successful project delivery, business growth and compliance requirements are met

Essential experience of the Principal Acoustic Signature Analyst:

  • Significant experience in underwater acoustics, acoustic signature analysis, marine sensing, signal processing or related technical disciplines
  • Strong understanding of underwater sound propagation, acoustic measurement techniques and signature generation mechanisms
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving and data interpretation skills with experience deriving actionable insights from complex datasets
  • Experience providing technical leadership across complex projects, multidisciplinary teams and stakeholder environments
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages, data science techniques and the development of innovative analytical tools and methodologies
  • Experience mentoring technical professionals while demonstrating a proactive approach to capability development, innovation, business growth and operational delivery under competing priorities

Essential qualifications for the Principal Acoustic Signature Analyst:

  • A degree, or equivalent experience, in a relevant engineering, scientific or technical discipline

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Winfrith site and is fully on-site with the flexibility to work at a variety of different locations within the UK and abroad is essential.
