Principal AI-Native Systems Engineer

6-Month Contract | £400–£450 per day | Hybrid London
Immediate Start Required

We are currently seeking a Principal AI-Native Systems Engineer to join a major telecommunications organisation on an initial 6-month contract.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering role focused on designing and delivering cloud-native, data-intensive and AI-enabled systems across network operations, automation, data and wider technology domains.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end architecture of complex AI-native, cloud-native and data-intensive systems.
  • Translate business requirements into clear technical specifications, acceptance criteria and non-functional requirements.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools and coding agents across design, development, testing, documentation and deployment.
  • Establish engineering standards, reusable patterns, guardrails and governance for AI-assisted delivery.
  • Design scalable, secure and resilient distributed systems, APIs, event-driven architectures, data pipelines and observability solutions.
  • Work closely with architects, software engineers, test engineers, product owners and business stakeholders.
  • Ensure solutions meet functional, security, performance, resilience and operational requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and coaching to engineering teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement using production feedback and delivery outcomes.

Essential Experience

  • Strong background in Systems Engineering, Software Architecture, Distributed Systems or Cloud-Native Platform Engineering.
  • Proven experience owning complex technical designs from problem definition through to production.
  • Practical experience with AI-assisted engineering tools, coding agents or AI-native development practices.
  • Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, concurrency, operating systems, networking, APIs and integration patterns.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, observability, security and production support.
  • Strong programming capability in Go, Rust, C/C++, Java or equivalent.
  • Python experience is desirable.
  • Strong technical leadership and stakeholder communication skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Strong AWS experience; AWS Solutions Architect certification would be advantageous.
  • Telecommunications or network operations experience.
  • Experience with RAN/Core analytics, AIOps, anomaly detection, RCA or operational automation.
  • Event-driven architectures, streaming data, lakehouse platforms or data engineering.
  • Experience with AI agent orchestration or model-assisted development.

Contract Details

  • Role: Principal AI-Native Systems Engineer
  • Duration: 6 months initially
  • Rate: £400–£450 per day
  • Location: London
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid – 2–3 days per week in the London office
  • Start: Immediate starters only
