Job description
We have an opportunity for a C1 to join the Heat in Buildings Assessment Register Team on a permanent basis to have overall lead responsibility for operational oversight of the Scottish EPC Register. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with proven digital and operational delivery experience.
The Heat in Buildings Assessment – EPC Register team is responsible for the operation and development of the statutory Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) Register. EPCs are a vital part of the Heat in Buildings policy landscape; they communicate important energy efficiency and heating system information to building buyers or tenants, are required in every new property transaction, underpin millions of pounds of Government schemes, and support research and reporting against climate change targets. Over 200,000 EPCs are produced in Scotland per year by over 3,500 assessors. This is an exciting time to join the team as we move into delivering a package of reforms to the EPC system – the first reform in 17 years. New regulations have recently been approved by Parliament to reform the certificates, following work with the Climate Change Committee, academics, and other key stakeholders, to better reflect current heat in building and energy efficiency policy.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
