Principal Architect
£120,000 – £140,000 | Remote | Occasional Client-Site Travel
We’re working with a leading digital technology consultancy that is looking to appoint a Principal Architect to provide technical leadership across large-scale, complex technology programmes.
This is a senior architecture position combining solution architecture, technical leadership, client engagement and people development. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders and multi-disciplinary engineering teams to shape architectural strategy, make key technical decisions and ensure solutions are designed and delivered to a high standard.
The Role
As Principal Architect, you’ll be accountable for the successful delivery of large-scale technology solutions, helping teams understand the outcomes they are trying to achieve and navigating the technical complexity involved.
You’ll:
- Lead the architecture and technical direction of large-scale, multi-team programmes and complex technology projects.
- Work with senior and C-level stakeholders to establish architectural principles, strategic direction and technical designs.
- Provide technical assurance and guidance to multi-skilled Agile engineering teams.
- Lead the design of modern, multi-tiered software applications and consider both functional and non-functional requirements.
- Advise customers on technology, architecture and emerging approaches.
- Help shape account strategies and contribute to business development alongside sales and account teams.
- Build strong, trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders.
- Manage, coach and develop architects and engineers, supporting their career progression.
- Contribute to technical standards, policies and communities of practice.
- Consider the commercial implications of architectural decisions and help drive successful customer outcomes.

What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for an experienced technology leader with a strong engineering and architecture background, ideally with experience operating within a consultancy or client-facing environment.
You’ll need:
- Proven experience leading technology delivery across complex projects, programmes or products.
- Strong experience designing modern, multi-tiered software applications.
- A solid understanding of whole-solution architecture and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
- Experience working with public cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Azure, including SaaS and PaaS services.
- An engineering background with the credibility to lead and provide assurance to development teams.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience working with C-level and senior client stakeholders.
- Experience contributing to business development, account growth or customer strategy.
- An understanding of the commercial implications of technical and architectural decisions.
- Proven experience managing, coaching and developing technical professionals.
- The ability to balance multiple priorities across major projects and deliver against demanding deadlines.
