The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Principal Architect to join our Consulting team. With shared office space in Birmingham, Telford, Manchester, Stafford, Sheffield and Bristol, we welcome applications from Principal Architects across these regions.
The Role
Our Principal Architects play an important part within the Consulting team and alongside our clients. As a Principal Architect you will act as a technical team leader, providing advice, guidance and supervision as appropriate to technical teams, operational managers, clients and suppliers.
You will manage or influence the actions of technical teams regardless of office location, project or account, including the multidisciplinary environment and to undertake the people manager role when required by the business. Key responsibilities include:
- Provide multi-discipline leadership and coordination on projects through all RIBA Stages.
- Take ownership for and manage individual tasks and support projects, from conception to completion.
- Preparing and leading the preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
- Ensure governance processes are followed and have experience in technical assurance.
- Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within their portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables.
- Compile, communicate and present regular project portfolio update reports internally/externally.
- Liaising with all client and internal Amey stakeholders/support functions to achieve project and team objectives.
- Significantly contributing to and leading the preparation of bids and the general work winning function, taking responsibility for the preparation of technical and commercial offers with accountability to the bid director.
- Foster collaborative working with all account stakeholders at every opportunity.
- Assuming the role of people manager when required by the business.

What You Will Bring to Us:
- Registered as an Architect with the Architects Registration Board.
- Chartered Membership of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
- Proficient in various design applications including AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and BIM.
- Familiar with various Contract Forms and Conditions.
- Knowledgeable in Building Regulations, Planning, Health & Safety, and other legislation.
- Skilled in Contract Administration.
- Adept at managing project-related tasks associated with health, safety, and welfare management, e.g., Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
- Capable of acting as the architectural lead for a project as required under the terms of the commission.
- Competent in using NBS and other relevant design/CA software.
- Experienced with Bentley Microstation.
- Prince 2 qualified.
- Background in the Rail or Light Rail sector is desirable.
- Experience in using ProjectWise.
