Principal / Associate Civil Engineer

Norwich
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

Lead, influence and shape the future of civil engineering.

We're partnering with a well-established, design-led engineering consultancy based in Norwich, recognised for its technical excellence, collaborative culture and innovative approach to engineering. With a growing portfolio of major projects across the residential, retail, logistics and technology sectors, they are continuing to expand their civil engineering capabilities and are now looking to appoint a Principal / Associate Civil Engineer to play a senior role within the business.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced civil engineer who is looking to take greater ownership of projects, build strong client relationships and have a genuine influence on the direction and development of a growing team. You'll be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from early-stage feasibility and due diligence through to detailed design and delivery, while also providing technical leadership and supporting the continued development of the civil engineering team.

The Role

  • Lead and oversee the delivery of complex civil infrastructure projects across the UK and Europe
  • Provide technical leadership across highways, drainage, flood risk, utilities and infrastructure design
  • Take responsibility for the quality, programme and commercial performance of projects
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong working relationships
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate effectively with other engineering disciplines
  • Review and approve technical reports, drawings, specifications and detailed design packages
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to engineers across the team
  • Take an active role in project planning, programming, resourcing and fee management
  • Contribute to bids, fee proposals and business development opportunities
  • Identify opportunities to develop existing client relationships and generate new work
  • Support the continued growth and development of the civil engineering team
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with relevant standards, regulations and best practice
  • Represent the business at client meetings, project meetings and industry events where appropriate

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
