Principal C&I Engineer
Sheffield - Hybrid
Are you an experienced engineering leader ready to take full ownership of complex control systems projects in the nuclear industry? Do you enjoy mentoring and developing a team while staying hands-on with technical delivery? Would you like to play a key role in shaping client relationships and driving project success from concept through to completion?
What's in it for you?
- £70,000 to £80,000 basic salary DOE
- 25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays, plus buy/sell up to 5 days leave per year
- Hybrid working - 2 days from home per week
- Flexible start and finish times - start between 7am and 10am, finish between 3pm and 6pm, plus Flexi Fridays
- 4.5% employer pension contribution, subject to a 5% employee contribution

What will you be doing?
- Reviewing and approving system architectures, designs and detailed specifications to meet client requirements
- Taking ownership of technical solutions from concept through to delivery, ensuring quality, performance and compliance throughout
- Leading system testing and validation, and overseeing technical documentation including requirements, design specs, test plans and operator manuals
- Leading technical discussions with project teams, resolving issues, and planning and leading site commissioning
- Managing project resource, budget and timesheet authorisation, including technical sign-off during the bidding process
- Building and maintaining client relationships, leading project meetings and acting as the technical point of contact
- Providing coaching, mentorship and technical guidance to the team, and supporting continuous learning and development
- Working closely with software, hardware, workshop and project management teams to ensure successful delivery

Where you'll be doing it
Our client has over 50 years' experience in digital transformation and system integration, delivering solutions across the energy, nuclear and industrial manufacturing sectors.

What you'll need
- At least 7 years' experience in systems engineering, ideally within a highly regulated industry such as nuclear
- Technical expertise in relevant software packages, such as SCADA, PLC and HMI systems
- A good understanding of project management principles, including cost control and client management
- Experience applying systems engineering principles, methodologies and integration processes
- A strong understanding of quality management systems, processes and procedures
- Experience with software development and hardware integration, including working on client sites
- Strong verbal, written and presentation skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions and support the bidding process
- Proven leadership and management ability
