About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to join a growing UK design team working on major water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will lead the technical and project delivery of larger and more complex non-infrastructure schemes, ensuring high-quality engineering solutions are delivered on time, within budget and to client requirements.

You will provide technical leadership, mentor and support junior engineers, and contribute to projects across the full lifecycle, from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and commissioning.

The role is based in Warrington, with flexible hybrid working combining office and remote working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver innovative, effective and value-for-money engineering solutions that meet technical and project requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership, line management and oversight of Engineers, Senior Engineers, Technicians and Graduate Engineers.
  • Maintain high technical standards and ensure work is delivered in accordance with project briefs and client expectations.
  • Lead projects through preliminary and detailed design stages, with a strong focus on quality, innovation and client requirements.
  • Prepare, review and approve engineering designs, technical documentation, cost estimates and calculations, while overseeing drawing production.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant management systems, CDM Regulations, health and safety requirements and environmental legislation.
  • Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Support contract preparation, project planning and programme development.
  • Contribute to bids and provide technical and delivery support across other projects when required.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
