Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Civil Engineer to join our busy and expanding team in Exeter. You will be working across a range of sectors including educational, residential and commercial, from scheme concept through to detailed design and construction monitoring.

Role

We are looking for a Principal Civil Engineer to join our existing team, who will be capable of working with minimal supervision and able to supervise and support junior members of the design team. Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Working within an SME multi-disciplinary design team providing technical design best practice
  • Design, administer and manage all civil engineering projects entrusted to you within the firm
  • Delivering margin / profit on projects
  • Support the Directors, Senior Engineers and the wider team within the firm in briefing, tendering, consultation, design, implementation and management of projects
  • Being responsible for the production of technical design information including drawings, calculations, specifications and reports
  • Liaising effectively with clients, local authorities and other design team members
  • Preparing bids and proposals
  • Client and fee management of projects including resource management
  • Mentoring junior members of the team
  • Promote and develop the consultancy capability of the company with both new and existing clients
  • Ensuring that quality assurance procedures are adhered to

Key Qualifications/Skills

  • Experience in leading and managing small teams, delegating and supervising work of team members and acting as a mentor for junior members to develop their technical skills
  • BEng Civil Engineering or MEng Civil Engineering
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. ICE). You may be working towards chartership status
  • Experience in liaising with clients, associated professionals, and multidisciplinary team members across all aspects of project delivery
  • Experience in highways and pavement design
  • Competent in foul and surface water drainage including SuDS design
  • Competent in the use of computer modelling packages such as MicroDrainage/FLOW
  • Competent in the production of specifications, technical reports and feasibility studies
  • Sound knowledge of design standards and codes of practice such as Sewers for Adoption, SuDS Manual (C753), the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and the Manual for Streets
  • Experience in adoptable infrastructure design and the negotiation of Section 104, 106, 38 and 278 Agreements
  • Competent in liaising with local authorities and other stakeholders to obtain necessary technical approvals and consents
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good understanding of the CDM 2015 Regulations
