The role offers significant opportunity to influence major programmes and contribute to the growth of Assystem's nuclear capability.
On a day-to-day basis, you will:

- Lead the development of engineering solutions for structures subjected to seismic, environmental and accidental loading conditions
- Oversee, review and approve technical deliverables, including engineering calculations, analysis reports, finite element models, specifications and drawings, in accordance with our quality assurance requirements
- Act as a Lead Civil Engineer, Technical Authority or Subject Matter Expert, providing technical leadership and independent review where required
- Ensure engineering solutions comply with applicable UK and international codes, standards, regulatory requirements, nuclear safety principles and environmental and health & safety requirements
- Support the development of nuclear safety cases, including hazard assessments and the derivation of civil and structural safety functional requirements
- Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews, ensuring effective integration of civil engineering solutions with architectural, mechanical, process, electrical, I&C, safety and geotechnical disciplines
- Support clients in fulfilling their Intelligent Customer responsibilities, providing trusted technical advice on strategic civil engineering matters
- Support business development activities, proposal preparation and client engagement, helping to expand Assystem's presence within the nuclear sector
- Mentor and develop engineers across the team, fostering technical excellence and supporting professional development and chartership

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
