At AtkinsRéalis, our Design & Advanced Technology practice brings together some of the UK's most diverse engineering and design expertise to tackle the most complex challenges facing our clients and communities.
We are looking for a motivated and capable Senior or Principal Civil Engineer to join our growing Civil Engineering team, delivering innovative and sustainable solutions across major infrastructure, transportation, energy, water, aviation, and development projects.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to further develop their technical expertise, broaden their commercial experience, and take on greater responsibility working towards technical leadership, design management, or people leadership within a supportive and collaborative environment.
You will become part of a high-performing team supporting a diverse portfolio of work across multiple sectors and clients. Our projects range from local residential and commercial developments to some of the UK’s largest and most complex infrastructure, nuclear, and defence programmes, providing exceptional opportunities to broaden your experience, deepen your technical expertise, and accelerate your career progression.

We offer hybrid working which involves 3 days per week being office/site based. This position can be based from any of our major offices of London Nova, Epsom, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, or Glasgow. It can also be based in our regional offices of Leeds, Newcastle, Peterborough, Exeter, Derby, Cardiff, or Swansea.

Your Role
The role offers broad project exposure, technical development, and clear opportunities for progression within a collaborative and growing team.
You will:
- Lead and contribute to the design and delivery of civil engineering solutions across a diverse project portfolio.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across multiple disciplines to develop integrated and sustainable outcomes.
- Support project delivery from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design and construction.
- Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and project partners.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to developing engineers.
- Contribute to innovation, continuous improvement, and the adoption of new technologies.
- Help identify opportunities that create additional value for clients and communities.
About You
We're interested in people who are technically strong, commercially aware, and genuinely enjoy collaborative working.
You’ll ideally bring:
- Experience in civil engineering design and project delivery.
- A degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Chartered or Incorporated status with Institute of Civil Engineers or an equivalent institution OR extensive experience and the ability to become chartered with the ICE within 12 months.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary project environments.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A passion for solving complex engineering challenges.
- A commitment to innovation, sustainability, and technical excellence.

Security clearance
