The Opportunity
At Stantec, we’re proud of our continued growth following several successful framework bids across the water industry. As we enter the most ambitious AMP to date, we’re expanding our exceptional engineering teams across the UK.
In the Northwest, we’re thrilled to have been appointed to United Utilities’ £269 million Design Development Partners Framework for AMP8. We’re also part of Yorkshire Water’s Storm Overflow Alliance, helping deliver their AMP8 capital investment programme.
Through these frameworks, we’ll provide end-to-end solution, from concept, feasibility and optioneering to outline and detailed design, focused on reducing Combined Sewer Overflow spills and improving river quality. We also continue to support a wide range of Clean and Wastewater Infrastructure and Non-Infrastructure projects throughout the UK.
These partnerships allow us to deliver innovative, sustainable designs that address the complex challenges facing the water industry.
To support this exciting work, we’re looking for a Principal Civil Engineer to join either our Manchester city centre or Warrington (Birchwood) team. You’ll be part of a UK-wide network, shaping the future with sustainability, environmental stewardship, and community impact at the core of everything we do.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
