Job Overview
An exciting permanent vacancy has arisen within the Audiology Service for a Principal Clinical Scientist to assist in the provision of a high-quality Audiology service to the population of North Wales served by BCUHB. The post holder will be lead for the Acoustic Implant service at Wrexham Maelor Hospital and will perform duties as described in the job description.
The post will be based at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The roles will be performed in outpatient, domiciliary, and/or in-patient settings across the area served by BCUHB.
There will be responsibility to train and supervise other clinical staff where appropriate.
This is an ideal opportunity to further develop clinical and service development skills in a supportive and progressive environment.
Main duties of the job
- To perform a range of highly specialised healthcare science activities associated with Acoustic Implantation (including the full range of bone conduction and middle ear implants).
- To provide highly specialised advice, opinions, training to own and other professions in areas of clinical responsibility; undertake research and development in this specialist field.
- To lead and manage the specialist Acoustic Implant team (Adults & paeds) ensuring safe, efficient and effective working practices.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
- MSc Audiological Science
- HCPC Registration Clinical Science
- Post-MSc specialist training qualification of equivalent (appropriate for HCPC registration)
Desirable criteria
- formal management training to HECert level
Experience
Essential criteria
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience within specialist field of acoustic implantation
- Evidence of CPD appropriate for registration as CS
- working knowledge of NHS Management structure, policy, operation and provision
- Experience of using quality control and QA techniques, both clinically and managerially
- experience of team leadership
- knowledge and experience of leading service developments, R&D project management, service oriented research, clinical audit, supervision & appraisal

Desirable criteria
- experience of managing a clinic area, working autonomously and evidence of input to MDT and multi-agency groups
- knowledge of wider NHS policy issues, health planning
- lecturing to peers and other healthcare professionals
- areas of special interest with reputation for such from peers
Skills
Essential criteria
- clinical skills in assessment and management of adults/paeds for acoustic implants (inc complex cases)
- applies knowledge to make judgments on complete problems assoc. with the clinical duties, management and development of the service
- physical skills necessary for fine examination / manipulation of instruments
- evidence of good management, planning & organisation skills
- skills in communicating information, advice, instruction and professional opinion to colleagues, patients, their relatives and carers
- Ability to gain cooperation from patients, relatives and carers to achieve desired outcomes
- self-motivated and able to work independently
- excellent team working, teaching, supervisory skills
Desirable criteria
- welsh language skills levels 1-5

- ability to travel routinely to locations within BCU area
- membership of relevant professional bodies inc special interest groups
- Satisfactory enhanced DBS clearance inc. an adults and children's barred list check
