Role: Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or Principal Psychological Therapist

We are excited to invite applications for the role of Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or Principal Psychological Therapist, to work across and provide clinical leadership to psychology staff within the three Salford Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT’s, working age adults) in relation to all aspects of direct and indirect psychological work.

We are seeking an innovative, responsive, and adaptable Principal Psychologist / Psychological Therapist who will drive service development, support the wider team, and promote collaborative, team-based ways of working that deliver high-quality care and positive outcomes for service users.

The post holder will maintain oversight of the work of more junior psychologists/psychological therapists and Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioners based within the three CMHTs. They will ensure that all psychological aspects of CMHT service provision continue to be maintained at the highest possible standards, ensuring people who use the service, and their carers/families, receive high quality care.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The postholder will maintain an overview of non-psychology practitioners’ psychosocial intervention work via the provision of co-working opportunities and case formulation, clinical supervision, reflective practice, and training sessions as needed.

They will provide expert psychological assessment, formulation, consultation, and intervention, and play a key role in the continued development of the Psychological Therapies Hub and the wider transformation of community mental health services.

The successful candidate will be trained/accredited, or willing to undertake training/accreditation, in one of the six core therapeutic modalities: SCM, MBT, EMDR, CBT-P&B, CAT, or BFT.
