The Role

The Principal Cloud Consultant role reports to the Practice/Director Lead. The focus of this core role is to deliver expertise in the broad Microsoft/Azure 365 stack to provide enterprise-class solutions for our clients. This should utilise AI/Agent skills to improve the rapid deployment of these solutions, taking clients from envisioning to the real benefits expected by our clients. You will provide expert technical knowledge and experience of most Microsoft/Azure 365 tools that we implement and configure, to provide our clients with confidence that their environment is well designed, robust, secure, and resilient. You will be able to assess and recommend appropriate use of Microsoft 365 products to meet a client’s needs or problems, propose/design effective and efficient solutions, and implement these. You will be at ease working either as part of a project team, or by yourself. You will be able to communicate with all stakeholders about the benefits of each solution, the timescales, and project progress.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential

  • At least 5 year+ experience in delivering quality solutions for clients, cross industry sectors.
  • At least 6 Microsoft certifications (relating to AI/Agent-AB/AI, Azure-AZ, Security-SC, Modern Work-MS and Copilot).
  • Excellent working knowledge and hands-on experience across much of the Microsoft/Azure product stack; with ability to configure/implement multiple products as part of a wider solution utilising Microsoft Azure, Entra, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, Purview, and Defender.
  • Ability to create designs, based on the above technologies, and implement Microsoft Cloud-based solutions.
  • Lead a small delivery team especially where multiple Microsoft/Azure 365 technologies are involved.
  • Provide ongoing support, troubleshooting, and training to client end-users.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience delivering cloud migration projects.
  • Excellent presenting skills to gain support and trust of clients.
  • Excellent documentation to ensure solutions are well defined in line with Ingentive processes.
  • Actively involved in delivering Microsoft funded workshops (xIAD, Copilot/AI, Security, etc).
  • Active involvement in developing existing or new services around Microsoft technology updates.

  • Maintenance and growth of relevant Microsoft certifications across Azure, Security, Modern Work, Copilot, and AI-related technologies.

Objectives and Responsibilities

You'll work across the areas below, and in line with Ingentive's delivery standards. The mix will vary by engagement:

  • Leading discovery, assessment, and advisory activity to understand client requirements, current-state environments, risks, opportunities, and desired business outcomes.
  • Designing secure, scalable, and resilient Microsoft Cloud solutions across Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, Purview, Defender, Copilot, and related technologies.
  • Implementing, configuring, and assuring Microsoft Cloud solutions, ensuring they are robust, well governed, secure, supportable, and aligned to client needs.
  • Providing technical governance, design assurance, and escalation support across complex cloud, security, migration, integration, and modern workplace projects.
  • Using AI, Copilot, and automation-led approaches where appropriate to accelerate delivery, improve quality, and create repeatable value for clients.
  • Supporting pre-sales activity through solution shaping, architecture input, estimates, proofs of concept, Microsoft-funded workshops, and client presentations.
  • Creating clear technical designs, recommendations, implementation documentation, and handover materials in line with Ingentive standards and delivery processes.
  • Communicating clearly with clients, Project Managers, and internal stakeholders on technical progress, options, risks, dependencies, issues, and recommended next steps.
  • Mentoring consultants and engineers, sharing knowledge, and contributing to reusable assets, delivery accelerators, and practice-wide technical standards.
  • Contributing to the development of new and improved Cloud services in response to Microsoft technology updates, market opportunities, and client demand.
  • Supporting pre-sales activity through solution shaping, architecture input, estimates, proofs of concept, Microsoft-funded workshops, and client presentations.

Quality Measures

Quality will be assessed against the consistency, robustness, and reliability of delivered work, including how effectively solutions are designed, assured, documented, and transitioned into support.

  • Solutions are designed with clear architecture principles, appropriate governance, security controls, and future scalability in mind.
  • Technical outputs are peer reviewed, tested, and validated before handover, with risks, assumptions, and dependencies clearly identified.
  • Implemented solutions demonstrate low defect levels, strong operational stability, and alignment with agreed client requirements.
  • Documentation is accurate, complete, version controlled, and suitable for both technical teams and client stakeholders.
  • Delivery follows Ingentive standards for configuration, security, naming conventions, knowledge transfer, and support readiness.
  • Recommendations and design decisions are evidence-based, clearly explained, and proportionate to the client’s environment, constraints, and desired outcomes.
  • Client handover is clear and effective, enabling successful adoption, maintainability, and ongoing operational ownership.
  • Lessons learned, quality improvements, and reusable patterns are captured and shared to improve future delivery consistency.
