Job Description
Role: Reporting to the Head of Cloud Presales, the Principal Cloud Solutions Architect will focus on Public Cloud solutioning and proposal development, with a focus on Microsoft Azure.
This strategic role involves crafting compelling value propositions for clients, supporting sales teams in closing high-value deals, and driving winning technical approaches aligned with Microsoft’s ecosystem and Telefónica Tech’s service standards.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Architecture & Design
- Lead as a senior architect for Public Cloud, guiding solution design aligned with best practices, cloud-native methodologies, and legislative requirements.
- Spearhead application modernisation, optimising cloud services, usage, and technology stacks in line with agreed architecture principles.
- Define rich models for application services to API standards, ensuring scalability, security, and supportability.

Client Engagement & Proposal Development
- Engage directly with clients to understand pain points, requirements, and business objectives.
- Present technical solutions in compelling ways, influencing decisions through technical clarity, commercial acumen, and client confidence-building.
- Lead negotiations, ensuring value is demonstrated through proposals while adhering to Business Assurance Framework (BAFO) and strict procurement standards.
- Author highly structured, persuasive RFPs/RFIs, ensuring consistency, depth, and compliance with Telefónica Tech’s presales process.
Collaboration & Team Thrust
- Mentor and oversee junior/FB-tier Cloud Architects, improving team capabilities and aligning workflows with inter-departmental objectives.
- Partner with sales, marketing, and delivery teams to ensure seamless transitions from presales to execution.
- Engage with offering management, relaying market feedback and new trends to shape strategy.
Technological Leadership & Innovation
- Proactively study emerging technologies (AI, automation, cloud-native platforms) and integrate findings into sales playbooks.
- Identify and pilot innovative approaches that drive differentiation in the marketplace.
- Champion the adoption of new application technologies while ensuring they align with security and supportability.
Performance Tracking & Continuous Improvement
- Analyse presales performance metrics, identifying trends in win rates, proposal quality, and market traction.
- Highlight opportunities for team efficiency, proposal standardisation, and strategic commercial positioning.
- Contribute to feedback loops with stakeholders and partners, ensuring data-driven, secure solutions.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in cloud pre-sales.
- Specialist expertise in public cloud (Azure, AWS or GCP), with a deep focus on Microsoft Azure services.
- Strong background in application modernisation, cloud-native architectures, and digital transformation in enterprise scenarios.

Technical & professional standards
- Microsoft Azure architecture certifications desired (e.g., AZ-305, AZ-400). AWS or GCP certifications may also be considered.
- Hands-on experience creating solutions for enterprise migration to cloud, leveraging PaaS and IaaS models (VMs, Storage, Containers, AI Fabric, Databricks, etc.).
- Ability to translate complex business pains into technical requirements clearly for stakeholders.
Soft Skills
- Exceptional communication: Tailor messaging for executives, business leaders, and technical decision-makers.
- Analytical problem-solving: Break down technical challenges into actionable, sophisticated solutions.
- Leadership: Demonstrable ability to cohere multidisciplinary teams, onboard new team members, and guide more junior staff.
