Location: UK Team: Telefónica Tech - UK&I, Cloud Solutions


About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Cloud Presales, the Principal Cloud Solutions Architect will specialise in Public Cloud solutioning, with a core focus on crafting winning propositions for Microsoft Azure. This strategic role involves driving complex sales scenarios, leading solution design, and mentoring the team to deliver high-impact outcomes.

Operating from strategic hubs including the UK, we provide market-leading services for enterprises across industries.


The Challenge

This critical role requires the following:

  • Deep Cloud Expertise: Ten-plus years' experience in cloud presales, specialising in Microsoft Azure architectures and solutions.
  • Solution Leadership: Direct authority over the Public Cloud solutions architecture team, responsible for technical direction, mentorship, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Client Alignment: Ability to translate complex cloud modernisation needs into secure, scalable, and cost-effective architectures.
  • Compelling Communication: Verbal and written excellence—elevating deep technical knowledge for ease in proposals, negotiations, and stakeholder submissions.
  • Data-Driven Impact: Commitment to analytical rigor and outcome measurement, improving proposal competitiveness and sales funnel success.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Team Guidance
  • Serve as the senior architect for the Public Cloud Solutions team, setting technical vision and standards.
  • Mentor cloud architects to refine skills, introduce start-of-art practices, and raise team calibre.
  • Align solution designs with business objectives and Telefónica Tech’s global architecture principles.

Client-Focused Solution Design
  • Help customers understand their technology gaps, proposing tailored cloud solutions balanced for performance, security, and ROI.
  • Translate customer needs into architectural specifications for modernised applications.
  • Present clear, targeted recommendations (including BAFO—Best Alternative Final Offer) in RFIs, RFPs, and technical evaluations.
Excellence in Proposal Development
  • Lead proposals from discovery to approved submission, ensuring they meet commercial, technical, and client-value standards.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align market trends, offerings, and client requests.
Cross-Team Collaboration
  • Partner with sales, marketing, and delivery teams to ensure smooth presales-to-delivery transitions.
  • Work with Product Management to update solution portfolios based on insights.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
  • Drive the evolution of cloud-native technologies through adoption of AI, automation, containerisation, and event-driven systems.
  • Track cloud trends and introduce private/public hybrid and multi-cloud architectures where beneficial.
Performance Tracking
  • Measure bid success rates, deal close times, and client satisfaction—adapting strategies where needed.
  • Communicate learnings to improve presales effectiveness across the Organisation.

Qualifications & Experience

Experience & Expertise
  • ≥10 years’ experience in cloud presales with a high focus on Microsoft Azure.
  • Proven track record in application modernisation, microservices, cloud migrations, and secure architectures.
  • Extensive knowledge of how enterprise IT, digitalisation, and compliance mandates interplay across industries (finance, healthcare, logistics, government).

Technical Certifications (Preferred)
  • Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or GCP Professional Cloud Architect also relevant.
Key Skills
  • Cloud Ecosystems: In-depth understanding of Azure, AWS, and hybrid cloud ecosystems.
  • Technical Storytelling: Ability to simplify complex cloud concepts for executives and engineers.
  • Analytical Rigour: Critical thought for -template costing, performance benchmarking, and trade-off analysis.
  • Client Advocacy: Persuasive post-sales follow-up to ensure implemented solutions meet expectations.
