Principal.NET Engineer Cambridge | Hybrid | £65,000–£90,000 + 10% bonus
Our client is a global leader in industrial software and technology, providing solutions used by organisations across manufacturing, energy, engineering and infrastructure. Their technology helps customers manage the complete lifecycle of complex industrial assets, from design and construction through to operation and optimisation.
The business is investing significantly in cloud platforms, industrial data and AI, with its R&D teams working on the next generation of intelligent capabilities for its global customer base.
The opportunity
We’re looking for a Principal.NET Engineer to provide hands-on technical leadership within a growing R&D engineering team in Cambridge.

This is a senior individual contributor role. You won't be managing a large team. Instead, you'll be expected to define technical direction, solve complex engineering problems, influence architecture and mentor other engineers.
What you'll be doing
- Defining technical approaches and architectural direction
- Designing scalable, distributed systems using C#/.NET
- Working with microservices, Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure
- Driving best practices around infrastructure, automation and security
- Solving complex technical problems end-to-end
- Influencing architecture across a large-scale platform
- Mentoring and supporting other engineers
- Working closely with product and engineering teams internationally
- Using and promoting modern AI-assisted development tools such as Codex and Claude

What we're looking for
- Extensive commercial software engineering experience
- Deep C#/.NET expertise
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices
- Experience with Kubernetes, cloud platforms and Infrastructure as Code
- Strong knowledge of authentication and authorisation
- Broad understanding of modern software architecture
- Proven experience taking ownership of complex technical problems
- Ability to provide technical leadership without formal people-management responsibility
- A genuine interest in using AI tools to improve the software development process
